He has extensive depth and experience counseling business owners on matters of entity organization and governance, negotiating resolution of ownership disputes and documenting agreements on ventures, acquisitions, financing, and employment. He is also proficient in commercial real estate acquisition, financing, and leasing, including deferred-tax exchanges of property. Outside of his law practice, Mr. Canfield is Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Goodwin House, Inc., a leading continuing care retirement community in northern Virginia. He has served as general counsel to the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, and on its Board of Directors, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Small Business Development Center. Mr. Canfield received his undergraduate degree, with distinction, from the University of Virginia, and his law degree from William and Mary, where he was a member of the Law Review. He was a judicial clerk to the Honorable Albert V. Bryan, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia before entering private practice in 1977.
