Heidi Meinzer is an attorney and shareholder with Bean, Kinney & Korman, P.C., where she practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation, animal law and criminal defense. Ms. Meinzer graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2000. Having served as a public defender for nearly six years prior to joining Bean Kinney in 2006, she has extensive litigation experience, with twenty jury trials and numerous appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Ms. Meinzer advises businesses involved in a wide range of issues, including contract disputes, employment matters and tax appeals. As examples of her breadth of experience, Ms. Meinzer successfully prosecuted a covenant not to compete case on behalf of a client whose employee pilfered valuable trade secrets. She also obtained a defense verdict from a jury on behalf of an employer faced with allegations of vicarious liability in a civil assault and battery proceeding. Rounding out her civil practice, Ms. Meinzer is a LEED Accredited Professional, handling real estate, land use and title insurance matters.

Ms. Meinzer’s practice also includes advising individuals. In criminal proceedings, she zealously defends her clients, obtaining a jury verdict of not guilty in a hotly contested forgery case. On the civil side, she handles trust and estate litigation, has successfully expunged her clients’ criminal records and favorably settled a residential construction matter. Ms. Meinzer speaks Spanish and has represented Spanish-speaking clients in both criminal and civil matters.

Due to her personal and legal experience and her passion for animals, Ms. Meinzer’s practice has naturally gravitated towards animal law, specifically related to companion animals. She handles a variety of matters involving animals, pet owners, pet care industry companies and non-profit organizations. Ms. Meinzer represents dog owners faced with dangerous dog proceedings, counsels upstart companies on contract and social media matters, and aids animal rescues in protecting proprietary information and prosecuting animal neglect charges. In December 2011, Ms. Meinzer was interviewed by Northern Virginia Magazine for the article titled, "Family and All It Entails… Frozen Embryos and Furry Friends," where she discussed pets as property.
