PHONE 703-525-4000OFFICE 2300 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 700Arlington, VA 22201 Mr. Schroll concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on enforcement of creditors' rights, in both state and federal courts including the bankruptcy court. His representation of banks and other lending institutions has involved wide-ranging aspects of bankruptcy reorganization proceedings, including complex adversary proceedings, cash collateral hearings, relief from stay, claim objections, contested plan confirmation hearings, and fraudulent conveyance, non-dischargeability and preference actions. He is also experienced in representing purchasers of assets from bankruptcy estates. Mr. Schroll regularly litigates commercial matters in state and federal court, and in particular, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. In addition to commercial litigation, he is experienced in the conduct of real estate foreclosures in Virginia and the District of Columbia and in the sale of personal property under the Uniform Commercial Code. Mr. Schroll's practice also includes the negotiation and preparation of loan documents on behalf of lenders in commercial loan transactions, including loans secured by government contracts, advising lenders regarding secured transactions, and representing purchasers and sellers of commercial loan documents. Mr. Schroll was the 2007-2008 Chair of the Board of Governors of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the Virginia State Bar and is a member of the Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar and a Master in the Walter P. Chandler American Inn of Court. Mr. Schroll frequently lectures on creditors' rights, bankruptcy and the Uniform Commercial Code. In the fall of 2010, he will begin co-teaching the course "Secured Finance" at George Mason University School of Law which explores the law and the economic consequences of secured finance, with a focus on the Uniform Commercial Code's Article 9. He has authored "Changes In Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code" presented to lending institutions and continuing legal education forums in 2001; "Revisions To Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code," presented to the Annual Meeting of the Business Law Section of the Virginia State Bar in November, 2000; "Look Before You Release: Is That Underinsured Defendant Really Judgment Proof?," published in The Journal of Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Fall 1995 and "Bankruptcy Code Changes Affecting Domestic Relations," published in Family Law News, Virginia State Bar, Winter 1994-95. A magna cum laude graduate (Phi Beta Kappa) of Duke University, Mr. Schroll received his law degree with honors from the George Washington University Law School in 1978. |
