Mr. Hughes is of counsel to the firm representing clients in construction litigation, commercial and civil litigation, and corporate, contract and general business transactional matters. Mr. Hughes has extensive litigation experience including jury and bench trial experience in both state and federal courts. He has appeared in trial courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. He also has extensive experience utilizing alternative dispute resolution procedures including both arbitration and mediation. Mr. Hughes is a LEED Accredited Professional with knowledge of the law as it relates to the design, construction and operation of green buildings.

Mr. Hughes is a graduate of Yale University. He received his law degree from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at William and Mary and is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell.

Mr. Hughes is admitted to the bars of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a past-Chair of the Construction and Public Contracts Section of the Virginia State Bar.

In addition, Mr. Hughes has participated extensively in community and association related matters. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association and past-President of the Alexandria and Urban Chapters. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and winner of the Affiliate Member of the Year award for the Northern Virginia Chapter. He is the Vice Chair of Membership and a member of the Board of Directors of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. In 2010 Mr. Hughes was appointed as the Treasurer of the Arlington County Bar Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Vanguard Services Unlimited, a highly regarded substance abuse treatment provider. Mr. Hughes is a member of the 2006 class of Leadership Arlington.

Mr. Hughes is a frequent speaker before a variety of groups on business, litigation and construction related topics. He also has published numerous articles in legal, professional and trade journals relating to litigation, contract, business and construction matters.
