Diversity & Inclusion

Bean, Kinney & Korman is committed to recruiting, retaining, and developing lawyers and staff with diverse backgrounds and experiences to create an inclusive culture both inside and outside the firm. In our mind, this spans multiple dimensions of diversity, including race but expanding to other elements.

Over the last several years in particular, our ownership group and firm leadership have committed to expanding our focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that commitment predates the events of the last year which have raised these issues to the front of national consciousness. That being said, we acknowledge this is a work in progress for our firm.

Beyond the census aspect of talent and recruitment, our firm concretely supports engagement and volunteering in the community.

This has included our attorneys serving in leadership roles in the Old Dominion Bar Association, the Diversity Conference of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Women Attorney’s Association and a fellow in the initiating class of the DMV Diversity and Inclusion Institute.

We actively seek out opportunities to participate in programs that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion for non-profits in the community.

We have supported paid internships at our firm for disadvantaged high school students precisely because this supports equity.

We promote and embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion not just because it is the current trend, but because it is consistent with our multiple decades of acting within the firm’s values and those values demand work in this arena.
