Timothy Hughes is the managing shareholder of Bean, Kinney & Korman. Tim’s practice has evolved from being a construction and commercial litigator into acting as general counsel handling corporate, contracts and general business matters. He has extensive experience in litigation in both state and federal courts and in arbitration and mediation.

Tim regularly drafts and negotiates a wide variety of sophisticated agreements, such as owner/contractor construction contracts, commercial leases, employment agreements, buy/sell agreements, software, service and licensing agreements, and a variety of vendor and other contracts. In addition to having served on numerous non-profit boards, he represents non-profit organizations on corporate governance, bylaws, and policy development. His representative clients span several industries, including regional property owners and developers, general contractors and specialty subcontractors, associations and non-profit organizations, a private local university, technology service providers and developers of technology products.

Tim is a LEED Accredited Professional with knowledge of the law as it relates to sustainable design and construction.

Beyond his legal work, Tim aspires to world-class customer service, excellence in his profession and life-long learning. He works as a connector by introducing his clients, friends and colleagues to provide additional value to his clients’ endeavors beyond simply providing excellent legal services.

  • Represented a payment bond clamant in a highly complex delay and equitable adjustment claim arising from a power plant. The case resulted in two national first impression decisions on AIA bond claims. Ultimately the claimant, Casey Industrial, resolved the case.
  • Represented Parex, an EIS manufacturer, on all their products liability cases throughout Virginia. The cases resulted ultimately in a favorable Supreme Court of Virginia opinion establishing law on the economic loss rule.
